Laura Beatrice Mancini Oliva nacque a Napoli nel 1821. Suo padre fu il precettore dei figli di Gioacchino Murat. Con il ritorno di Ferdinando I, ilÂpadre fu costretto, con la famiglia, all'esilio in Francia. Laura trascorse la sua infanzia a Parigi, venne educata dal padre.ÂNel 1844 fu accolta come socia nell Accademia peloritana di Messina e nel 1845.ÂA Genova, dove si reco' con il marito che prese parte al Congresso degli scienziati italiani, pronuncio' il carme 'Italia. Pel supplizio dei fratelli Bandiera'. A FirenzeÂfrequentarono la sua casa, come a Napoli cosi' a Firenze e a Torino, personaggi illustri, fra cui Carlo Poerio, Guglielmo Pepe, Giuseppe Garibaldi e Terenzio Mamiani. ITA.

Rara edizione di una delle poche poetesse-patriote risorgimentali, di spiccato interesse e coraggio: in prima linea nella rivolta di Napoli del 1848, dovette rifugiarsi a Trieste. Tornerà a Napoli solo nel 1860 dopo la fuga dei Borbone. Prima edizione (uscirà un'edizione curata da Terenzio Mamiano nel 1874).
