Amsterdam 1756 Izaak Duim, softcover 112 blz. Compleet en goed.
Rare theatre play by Langendyk. In the back after the end, a loose page (parts are lost) with extra text that should be inserted in the play. Very worn copy because it was read a lot.Decorated paper binding.Size: 16,5 x 10,5 cm.
Convolute: The first title (a biography of Pieter Langendyk) comes with just a half title, without place, printer or date. The last page of this first title has been pasted to a following blank page. Through the page it is still legible that this covered up page concerns a table of content: "Inhoud van 't vierde en laatste deel". It seems to have been part of "De Gedichten van Pieter Langendyk" (in four parts), published between 1751-1760. And it seems to be just the appendix with the authors biography. The second title (containing two poems: "Lof der Aêloude Schilderkonst" and "Lofkrans voor de stadt Haarlem", with continuously numberd pages) comes with an engraved titlepage (Wandelaar inv. et fecit): Amsterdam, by de Weduwe B. Visscher, 1721. 4to., later marbled paper binding, 33+54 pp., worn spine, but the printwork is clear with only some stains. The first title comes with an engraved frontispiece portraying Langendijk (F. Houbraken sculp.), the second title comes with an engraved titlepage (Wandelaar inv. et fecit) and another engraved portrait of Langendyk (Houbraken sculps. 1752). The convolute closes with three pages depicting heraldic and numismatic Haarlem crests, numbered 1-20. Whoever compiled this convolute tried to erase the fact that both sections were originally part of bigger works, by covering up the catchwords on the bottom of the pages that would have been followed by a page that isn't there.
