With original addresses by the above notables and others, containing significant biographical information on this noted U.S. scientist who did experiments in physics and electromagnetics. Henry was the first secretary and director of the Smithsonian Institute, and an original member of the National Academy of Sciences (and its president 1868-1878). 1-inch closed tears at inner ends of tissue facing portrait; personal bookplate of noted American chemist Charles F. Roth, whose copy this was. Else a tight, solid, clean copy with no internal markings. Scarce, with a nice association bookplate.
