Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. First edition (no additional printings listed). Original red cloth, 6 ¼ x 9 ¼ inches, index, 615 pp, map on endpapers. Hardcover, near fine in a poor dustjacket. Dustjacket has a 3 ¾ x 3 ¾ x 6 inch piece torn off rear panel, rubbed along edges with several ¼-1/2 inch tears, ¾ inch scuff mark on front panel. Book itself has upper corners of three adjoining leaves creased, otherwise tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked and apparently never read. Thorough, well researched history of the growth of the diocese, originally serving Irish and German immigrant coal miners, through its growth, outreach to Italian, Polish and other newer arrivals, etc. , full of people, places and events.
