Accordion. Condition: About Fine. First Thus. A scarce and early view book, undated circa 1880's, complete with 29 views (on 19 plates) in the Whites pre-dating the automobile. These range in size from Full-page (app. 7" x 5") to 1 quite small insert .75" x 1.25", 1/2 & 1/4 page as well. These are in overall near Fine Condition. 6-1/4" x 8". in Dark maroon cloth with Gilt titled & decorated covers, very attractive for keeping the plates. All images/views in a bold and contrasty tinted style. All illustrations have been excised, minutely trimmed and finally laminated in 10 mil clear gloss. These are now ready and protected to use for bookmarks, placekeepers, unique post cards, framing, etc. If you are not sure just what to expect please let me know and I will send you a sample, they do look quite nice. I have used this process on old illustrations for decades and as far as I know they do not yellow over time. NOTES: Although they are generally referred to as "photo-views", the pictures in these small, popular albums were not photographs. They were printed with stone, in a multi-pass process that displayed a range of tones not possible with ordinary lithographic printing. NOTE: This example is by far the nicest condition (this variant & color) I have ever seen. I never use the trerm 'Mint', however 'As New' will suffice. Other than the tiniest bit of wear at the corners it would pass for new, not an easy task for a book that is around 140 years old. We currently have nearly 100 of these view books by assorted publishers, ages and conditions, this one is in best, condition-wise. Size: 12 - Digest. Book.

No Binding. Condition: Near Fine. 32 photo illustrated pages with 31 photos and the title page, center pgs loose. The front cover features a waterfall with text in red and dark green over the puce-colored card paper covers, rear is blank. This is the elusive first-issued cover which began with this popular large photo-illustrated booklet of the White Mountains. Up till then there were many others but not with actual photographs this size for this, relatively, small retail price. This is likely the 4th or fifth printing, the 'Willey House' is shown which burned down in 1899. 10" wide by 8" tall. Scarce thus and the earliest printing I have seen in over 30 years of collecting. Book.
