Condition: Good. 1931. No Edition Remarks. 158 pages. No dust jacket. Decorated brown cloth. Contains black and white photographic plates. Volume I. Pages and plates are lightly tanned and foxed throughout. Occasional thumb-marking present. Brown marks and previous owner's inscription to front free endpaper. Binding is slightly shaky. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Soft crushing to spine ends. Scuffed paper remnants to front board and spine. Book is slightly forward leaning. Mild tanning to spine and edges.

Leatherette. Condition: Very Good Plus. Dust Jacket Condition: No Wrapper. 1st Edition. Type: Z 158pp. A two volume set bound in uniform brown leatherette with gilt embossed lettering to the front board and spines with a gilt embossed vignete of a jockey on a racetrack to the front boards. Illustrated with numerous b/w full page photographic plates, including a frontispeice plate of Sir T. A. Cook to volume one. Slight bumps to the head and tail of the spine of volume two. There is light fading to the peripheries of the green end papers and scattered foxing - mostly light and chiefly to the fore edges. There is a light crease to the front margin extreme edge of pp 291 of volume two. Both volumes are well preserved, being clean and tight. A very good copy.

A first edition of the two volume set of Captain Browne's history of horse racing in England between 1904 and 1930. Supplementary to the History of English Turf by Sir T. A. Cook, of whom the volumes are dedicated, and who is depicted in the portrait frontispiece of volume one. Richly illustrated with plates: 74 photographs in volume one and 82 photographs in volume two, including frontispieces. Collated complete. With a 1989 photograph from the previous owner loosely inserted between 214 and 215. In publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with some small staining to the front board of volume one, and to both boards of volume two. Slight sunning to the spine of volume one, otherwise colour is good and gilt is bright. Internally, volume one is firmly bound. Binding of volume two is strained in places. Light spots to the fore edges of both volumes, affecting the occasional page. Very Good. book.
