A typed letter with the date June 21, 1916 and the poet's printed signature is tipped in between the front endpaper and the front blank page. Each page has a fold on the top end and open edges on the front and bottom. The left hand pages each have a poem about a month. The right hand pages each have a wood cut illustration printed in color. The top ends of the covers spine, the adjacent board corners, and the text lock spine are bumped. The gilt on the front board is missing from one letter and from part of four other letters. The boards' bottom edges, about a twelfth of the back board and spine strip have faded spots caused by an insect. Six pages have foxing along the bottom edge, One margin has a 3 in. closed tear along the inside edge. Scans e-mailed upon request. First trade edition, first printing, of this collection of 13 poems and accompanying woodcuts, following the limited edition of 525 copies in a larger format on handmade paper published by the Brothers of the Book in 1916. The publisher, Laurence Woodworth was the scrivener for the Brothers of the Book, a small private press "made up of those who like well-printed books" based in Chicago and founded in 1898 (The Printing Art, vol. 21). Kendall Banning (1879-1944) was an author and magazine editor best known for dedicating his Censored Mother Goose Rhymes, to "the censors of America who have taught us how to read naughty meanings into harmless words". The illustrator, Gustave Baumann (1881-1971), was one of the leading figures of the colour woodcut revival in America. Northern Illinois University Libraries, The Private Press in the Midwest, 1973. Octavo. Entirely uncut and unopened in original black wrappers, titles to spine and front cover in red. With the original brown paper packaging envelope. With 13 full-page woodcuts by Baumann.
