Very Good+. Ellis (1876-1941) was an American inventor and a pioneer in the field of organic chemistry. He is the forgotten father of margarine, polyester, anti-knock gasoline, paint and varnish remover, and holder of 753 patents. He developed Standard Oil's tube & tank process of cracking oil, found the formula for cheap acetone to fireproof airplane wings in World War I, and made plastics an exact and lucrative science. Illustrated throughout with b/w drawings, charts, graphs, etc. Maroon cloth with gilt titling on spine. Covers show light rubbing to corners, edges, and top & tail of spine. Mild soiling to text block. Very mild foxing at ends; previous owner's signature on title page; otherwise interior is clean, crisp, tight & bright, unmarked. xix, 709 pp. plus 29 pp. Short Title Catalog from Van Nostrand at rear. Approx. 6.5" x 9.5". A very nice copy and an excellent addition to your library. Very scarce. Carefully shipped in secure parcel. Ask all questions; glad to respond. Bookseller Inventory # 501743
