Synopsis:
"Post-Modern Terrorism: Trends, Scenarios and Future Threats" provides a timely overview of some of the issues that are of concern to security authorities the world over, such as: what shape is terrorism likely to assume in the near future; what conflicts are likely to give rise to the next generation of terrorists; and what steps should we be taking now to meet future threats. Terrorism, in one form or another, is likely to be with us for the foreseeable future. This collection provides readers with glimpses of the shape of terrorism in the next decade, according to some of the foremost terrorism scholars and security experts in the world. The work is based on a selection of lectures presented at the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism (ICT) Third International Conference by such well known experts as: Steve Pomerantz, former deputy director of the FBI; Shabtai Shavit, former head of Israel's Mossad and Chairman, ICT Board of Directors; Dr. Boaz Ganor, executive director of ICT; Dr. Rohan Gunaratna, author of Inside al-Qaida; and Matthew Levitt, senior fellow at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

Topics dealt with include terrorism forecasting, the evolution of religiously motivated terrorism, containment of mega-terror attacks, and integrated responses to terrorism. Many of these issues are especially relevant to those whose responsibility it is to co-ordinate homeland security and crisis response. While the detailed discussions will be of special interest to security professionals, the wide range of topics covered makes this book an excellent introduction for the interested layman as well.
