About the Author:
Félix Rubén García Sarmiento, conocido como Rubén Darío fue un poeta, periodista y diplomático nicaragüense. Máximo representante del modernismo literario en lengua española es posiblemente, el poeta que ha tenido una mayor y más duradera influencia en la poesía del siglo XX. Se le apoda el príncipe de las letras castellanas. Influenciado muy fuertemente por los poetas románticos, y muy especialmente Víctor Hugo sucumbió igualmente a la influencia de los parnasianos: Théophile Gautier, Leconte de Lisle, Catulle Mendès y José María de Heredia. Y, por último aprendió de los simbolistas, y entre ellos, Paul Verlaine. Sin embargo, los temas españoles están muy presentes en su producción. En cuanto a los autores de otras lenguas, debe mencionarse la profunda admiración que sentía por tres autores estadounidenses: Emerson, Poe y Whitman.
