About the Author:
George Orwell was born Eric Arthur Blair on 25 June 1903 in British India. In 1924, Orwell got a job as a policeman near Rangoon. There he started working on this book. At that time, Burma was not an independent country but was part of India. British Burma became separated from British India in 1937 after Orwell left. He died on 21 January 1950. This book was his first novel. This was written before he became famous as the authors of "1984" and "Animal Farm". The book was rejected by several publishers mainly because the characters resembled real people and the publishers feared the libel laws.
