It brings together the work of more than 100 of the world's foremost thinkers, writers and artists in an anthology of texts and images of the development of Western culture and critical theory since 1945. A montage of visual documents recounts the postwar history of the avant garde in all areas of artistic creation: architecture, film, photography, painting, sculpture, installation, performance and more. A parallel sequence of texts ranges from key source material of the last 50 years to contemporary contributions examining the turning points of culture since the war.
