No other material has filtered into our lives for as long and in as many ways as wood. From furniture to buildings and from mass production to one-offs the book is a companion for designers, architects, specifiers, buyers, students or anyone interested in the subject of materials and their use in modern design. This book explores and illustrates the uses and types of wood and introduces new advanced materials and new methods of processing, making it a material for the future. Divided into relevant chapters it includes the various incarnations of wood from raw and processed timber to board and products derived from wood. Each page describes a specific subject, which is illustrated with inspiring images and with information broken down into digestible sections, which provide the reader with specific details.

Synopsis:
An inspirational exploration of how one of the most traditional materials, wood, is used in many different ways. Long used for furniture and architecture, wood is today used more for its aesthetic qualities and is enjoying a revival. "Wood" features unusual contemporary applications such as interior products made of cork and bamboo and veneered wall coverings or architectural uses such as Norwegian sustainable housing and Japanese wood and paper housing, as well as musical instruments, handbags, boats and a bath. All types of wood are represented, as are numerous processes, including carving, staining, veneering, moulding and pulping.
