Little Leona of Monsters and Fire is a good book to initiate or reinforce discussions regarding fire safety. It provides instruction for what to do in case of a fire. The rhyming text and whimsical illustrations will keep children entertained while imparting a valuable lesson.
Little Leona Of Monsters and Fire is a gem. With off-the-wall illustrations and a whimsical story, children will understand how the dragon is a metaphor for fire and with help from their parents and teachers, this book will strengthen their emergency preparedness skills so they know what to do when they are threatened by fire. Both my neighbor's house and my friend's house were completely destroyed by fire. Teaching kids how to react and respond to fire is a gift worth giving, and this is a great way to do it!
My daughter received this book as a gift. I thought she might be scared by the dragon, but she loves it. I really like Leona, who is a wonderful, strong character who knows what to do in an emergency. Besides being a good read, the book prompted us to have a conversation about what to do in case of fire. As we continue to read it over the years, it will reinforce that message, which is really valuable. Highly recommended!
This book presents serious lessons in fire safety in a poetic, whimsical way, sure to engage young children. The illustrations are delightful and imaginative. My grandchildren, ages 5-9, listened attentively when I read this story to them. Then they began telling me all that they had learned in school on fire preparedness, further helping them to integrate these important life lessons in their minds but in a very light hearted way. This makes a wonderful gift for any young friends!
A charming book with an engaging heroine whom any child would love to meet. Invaluable lessons about fire safety--the perfect impetus for an in-depth discussion of how to handle a fire emergency. The illustrations are exquisite.
