If you are not sure how everything fits together in the Abbey series and EJO's other books, then Island to Abbey is the book you need! The book is especially helpful for those who do not own all the books. The authors, Stella Waring and Sheila Ray, take the reader on a journey from Elsie Oxenham's first book, Goblin Island, first published in 1907, to her last, Two Queens at the Abbey, published in 1959. There are précis and discussions of every book, with details of how each fits into particular series, and connect to each other (there are some titles which are on their own, but very few). There are numerous black and white illustrations from the books, and also 16 colour illustrations of rare dustwrappers (four to a page). The authors also discuss the locations, and to help readers, there is a colour pictorial map by Edna Golder showing where to find the sites, plus specially commissioned black and white maps showing the locations in more detail and black and white photographs of all the main places mentioned in the books.
