Review:
For the committed sportsman, Rough Shooting in Ireland is essential reading. It presents an encyclopaedic knowledge of the sport, the birds and the strategy to ensure a great day of enjoyment. The wonder of this sport vibrates throughout this publication. This book makes a very positive contribution to understanding and appreciating this wholesome pursuit. --Joe Rea, Irish Farmers Journal
Douglas Butler has written what can accurately be described as the most comprehensive and authoritative account of contemporary Irish game shooting. The text should adorn the bookshelf of all those with a passion for game shooting, the natural world and Irish countryside. Passion for the sport of game shooting shines through on every page. --Anthony O Halloran, South Tipperary Today
This well-illustrated book is the product of one man s life-time preoccupation with preserving game stocks out of season and reducing the same stock in season. For anyone with even a passing interest in wildfowling and there are some 150,000 licensed hunting guns in the state Rough Shooting in Ireland will go admirably with the port. --Seamus Leahy, Sunday Business Post
About the Author:
Douglas Butler, a Doctor of Zoology, teaches science at Tipperary's Rockwell College. In his book, Rough Shooting in Ireland, he writes with forthright enthusiasm about days with friends at local rough shoots: the gundogs, the approach to the different species, the behaviour of the birds, the hunting methods, predator control, habitat maintenance - all coloured by his lively interest in the history of Irish game shooting and his modern specialist knowledge of the quarry. He lives in Country Tipperary with his wife Margaret, and their family.
