Pictorial wraps with previous owner name on ffep. Loosely laid in are three postcards of paintings in the Penlee Museum in Cornwall. Beautifully illustrated in colour throughout with a number of contemporary photographs. Wallace presents information about each individual painter alongside illustrated examples of their work. Wallace focusses on 16 artists who were based at Newlyn early on, the major ones being Langley, Harris, Forbes and the Thomas Cooper Gotch and his wife, Caroline. In the 1890s, the Newlyn Art Gallery was founded and Forbes and his wife opened a school of painting. Amongst the 24 artists, including a number of married couples, who were attracted as a result and who formed the second generation of artists were Harold Harvey (the only Cornish-born artist), Ernest and Dod Proctor, `Lamorna' Birch, Harold and Lorna Knight and Alfred Munnings.
