Crispin Gill produced a standard history of
Plymouth that has remained in print for over four
decades. Revised and updated in various editions,
this new work is further edited and republished
in this new format.
Starting with the Norman Conquest the book
follows each major development of the city, its
social and political upheavals, and the principal
figures who emerged to become an indelible part
of Plymouth's history, and that of the nation. The
book concludes with the destruction of the much
of the old city during the bombing raids suffered
during the SecondWorldWar.

About the Author:
The late Crispin Gill was born and
brought up in Plymouth where he
became a well known face as a
reporter on the Western Morning
News, rising to become Assistant
Editor for over twenty years. Few
people knew the city as Crispin did,
having seen it before the destruction
of the SecondWorldWar, and living
through its greatest period of change
in the twentieth century. He later
became editor of The Countryman
magazine and wrote and edited many
books, including Plymouth River and
Sutton Harbour.
