Stéphane Poulin was born in Montréal in 1961. In 1984, as he was completing his studies in graphic arts at Collège Ahuntsic, he won first prize for children's illustration in the Communication-Jeunesse contest. The next year Stéphane published his first book to wide critical acclaim. His numerous prizes include the Canadian Council in 1986, the Elizabeth Cleaver Award in 1988, and The Boston Globe Award of Excellence, 1988.
