About the Author:

MICHAEL HANRAHAN is the Assistant Director of Academic Technology Services and a Lecturer in English at Bates College, USA. He has held teaching and educational technology positions in the United States and Great Britain.

DEBORAH L. MADSEN is Professor of American Literature and Culture at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Her books include Rereading Allegory: A Narrative Approach to Genre (Palgrave Macmillan, 1994), Allegory in America: From Puritanism to Postmodernism (Palgrave Macmillan, 1996), American Exceptionalism (1998), Feminist Theory and Literary Practice (2000), Understanding Contemporary Chicana Literature (2000), Maxine Hong Kingston (2001), Chinese American Literature (2002) and edited volumes on post-colonialism and American Literature. She is current president of the Swiss Association for North American Studies.
