Fur eine Eisengiesserei bildet die Modelltischlerei eine unentbehrliche Erganzung, und die Bekanntschaft mit den allgemeinen Regeln, auf denen die Anfertigung eines brauchbaren Holzmodells beruht, ist von grosser Wichtigkeit fur den Griessereibeamtenz in den Maschinenfabriken fertigt man zahlreiche Theile der Maschinen aus Holz; und derselbe Fall, d. h. die Vereinigung von Holz und Metall an einem und demselben Grebrauchsgegenstande, wiederholt sich in mannigfacher Weise bei verschiedenen anderen Zweigen unserer Gkewerbsthatigkeit Wenn ich, von dieser Erkenntniss ausgehend, mich entschloss, meiner "Verarbeitung der Metalle auf mechanischem Wege" eine "Verarbeitung des Holzes" anzureihen, so wird es der Leser erklarlich finden, dass ich hinsichtlich der Anordnung des Stoffs nach moglichster Uebereinstimmung mit jenem erstern Werke strebte, ja nicht selten Bezug auf dasselbe nahm. Trotzdem bildet die "Verarbeitung des Holzes" ein selbststandiges Ganze, auch fur Solche brauchbar, denen eine metallurgische Thatigkeit ferner liegt; und ich bin bemuht gewesen, eine Ausdrucksweise zu wahlen, welche auch einem weiteren Kreise von Lesern eine Benutzung des Buchs ermoglicht. Mochte der "Verarbeitung des Holzes" dasselbe freundliche Wohlwollen zu Theil werden, welches meiner "Verarbeitung der Metalle" bereits in so reichem Maasse entgegengebracht wurde.
