It has been held, indeed, by not a few scholars of sober judgment, that it is a matter of even greater moment than the question of Latin pronunciation; but, not to touch upon that vexed point, it would, perhaps, be truer to say that until Latin orthography is systematically and persistently taught in our schools and colleges, no reformation in pronunciation is likely to obtain generally.
