Volume 35 of our bilingual series of books (THE OLD ROAD TO SANTIAGO IN SPAIN) is provided as an aid for students (especially bilingual students) who are studying different periods of Spanish history. One of the most important of these periods is the history of the pilgrimages made along the Road to Santiago from all parts of Europe for more than one thousand years. Almost every city and town has a story or legend that has had shaped its history. Some are true, others are doubtful and many are pure fiction. However, it is often difficult to decide into which category each falls. Our narrative follows the so-called "Old Road to Santiago" which followed a more northerly route to avoid contact with the Moors who still occupied much of Spain south of the Duero River. This route started in Valcarlos and then continued west of Pamplona through the Basque country and then eventually to Santiago de Compostela. This book is well illustrated with photos that will help students appreciate the beautiful Romanesque architecture of that period. Activities, questions and a final exam are provided to help students learn about the great history of the Old Road to Santiago in Spain as they express themselves in their target language.
