About the Author:
About the Author On the heels of the success of WineTrails of Washington and WineTrails of Oregon, author Steve Roberts set about discovering the story behind the story of the Idaho wine industry. From the state’s northern panhandle to its southern Snake River Valley, his research led to the creation of WineTrails of Idaho — a guide to discovering one of Steve’s favorite places on earth. A native of the Pacific Northwest, this self-proclaimed “WineTrails Guy” makes it easy for you to get out there and discover your favorite wine tours. Steve visited wineries throughout Idaho to capture their unique stories, their ambiance and their wines. WineTrails of Idaho is the culmination of that work and a reflection of his love affair with Idaho. He explains, “The book is a snapshot in time of the young Idaho wine industry. No doubt it will evolve, and the book will need to be updated. That’s one of the challenges of my job, but someone has to get out there and do it. It might as well be me!” Renowned Northwest wine writer Paul Gregutt notes, “Today the unchallenged cham-peen of wine travel writing here in the Northwest is Steve Roberts, who calls himself the ‘WineTrails Guy.’ His first book, WineTrails of Washington, is ... the best reference for those wanting to hit the road in this state.... But Roberts has been busy elsewhere, spending a year on the winding back roads of Oregon, and his WineTrails of Oregon – A guide for uncorking your memorable wine tour is the result ... brimming with the author’s trademark joie de vivre.” The WineTrails Guy often gives presentations and fields questions about his favorite wine tours and winery destinations. His goal is encourage fellow wine enthusiasts — novice and seasoned wine tourists alike — to create their own exciting experiences in wine country. To this end, he developed winetrailsnw.com, a companion website to the WineTrails guidebooks, which offers up-to-date winery and event information. A resident of Mercer Island, Washington, Steve is happily married to Kathleen Roberts and is the proud father of two great young adults, Alex and Meg Roberts. When the opportunity arises, Steve escapes to his second home in Sun Valley, Idaho. As Steve notes, “I know all of the coffee shops in Sun Valley, because that is where I wrote most of this book. Evidently, Hemingway wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls in Suite 206 of the Sun Valley Lodge with room service at his beck and call. I wrote WineTrails of Idaho at Tully’s Coffee in Ketchum with free Wi-Fi and a double tall.”
