"Many pieces in this exhibition were made during the Gianlong period. Following the tradition of his grandfather Kangxi, the Gianlong emperor, the greatest collector of Chinese art in history, was also the driving force behind the greatest production of art the world has ever known. Over a sixty year reign there were at times up to eight hundred artists working in the palace workshops and many thousands of artisans working for the court in jade carving centres, porcelain factories, and silk manufacturing centres far from Beijing. Guangdong was also an important production centre, not only for export but on a large scale for the court in Beijing. Objects were either designed and ordered by the court or given as tribute gifts. Examples of the objects produced in Guangdong are included in this exhibition and are testimony to the quality of production in the region" Light wear to covers, otherwise, in excellent condition with no inscriptions.
