Great American Ships is an illustated guide to every historic ship in the United States that can be visited -- whether they are in a museum, afloat, or have been converted to another use -- like a floating restaurant. It is based on several years of work in which Candy Clifford and I visited each and every one of these ships around the country at the request of Congress, who asked us to inventory the nation's maritime heritage and determine which were among the most important. This book is one of the results.
