'Evil is even, truth is an odd number and death is a full stop'.
At Swim- Two-Birds
A number of people who esteemed the late Brian O'Nolan have contributed to this volume. Despite the fact that he has a growing fame, he remains relatively unknown. Writers as different from each other as Graham Greene, James Joyce, S. J. Perelman and Dylan Thomas gave him high praise during his lifetime and another generation subsequently has become captivated by his rare prose and mind. Before his memory gets snuffed out by pedantry, we thought it right to ask some of the people who knew and admired him while he was alive to recall something of his impact. Great comic writers are few and far between and for their full appreciation an understanding of milieu is helpful.Brian O'Nolan made two pen-names famous, those of 'Flann O'Brien' and 'Myles na Gopaleen', the former being used mostly for novels in English, the latter for work in Irish and for his internationally famous newspaper column, 'Cruiskeen Lawn'.
Born in Co. Tyrone on October 5th 1911, he died in Dublin on April 1st 1966.
