What is the "good home"? The author, Dennis Wedlick, explains that to him it is a house imbued with soul, a house whose character arouses emotions and sentiment. A good home is also poetic. In this book the author gives the reader a sense of what a house with soul can be, and the picturesque techniques the reader can use to communicate those ideas. While The Good Home does not attempt to answer every question that could be asked when deciding to build a house, it does give the reader an introduction to important ideas and techniques, drawing from a portfolio of picturesque houses. The book is divided into two sections, Picturesque Interiors which examines such design techniques as focal points, shaped spaces, transparency, enfilade and details; and Picturesque Exteriors which illustrates the use of dormers, columns, doors and exterior lighting.
