About the Author:
Born into the first family of Indian Politics-the Nehrus- Nayantara Sahgal saw at first hand Indias emergence as an independant nation. She has published 17 books and has won the following award; Commonwealth writers prize (1986) Sinclair fiction Prize (1985) Sahitya Akademi award (1986) She has also served on the juries for such awards since then and in 1990 was elected Fellow of the American Academy of arts and sciences. In 1997 she was awarded an honorary doctorate for literature by the University of Leeds.
