After acclimating to the inane customs of the blathering human fools, Dirk Lloyd has managed to make contact with his home in the Darklands. Unfortunately, his powers have betrayed him yet again. His new, and dare he say it, good friend Sooz has been transported to his Iron Tower of Despair, where she awaits what is sure to be a slow and painful end. Little does Dirk know that Sooz has formed her own alliances as the new Dark Mistress of his former kingdom. Dirk must find a way to get Sooz home, especially before his arch-nemesis Lord Hasdruban vanquishes Dirk once and for all. In this equally hilarious and clever sequel, Dirk attempts to regain his evil stranglehold on the Darklands and survive another year in school.

Review:
"Here's hoping Thomson's second Dark Lord title is not the last . . . It is sarcastic British fantasy in the Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams vein." "--""Kirkus Reviews""" "Reminiscent of the zany, action-packed adventures in 'Artemis Fowl' (Hyperion), served up with sly commentary on the powerlessness of being a child. Packed with tween-appeal." "--""School Library Journal""" "Awe-inspiring episode . . . the threat in the author's blurb to consign wrongheaded reviewers to the Slave Pits of Never-Ending Toil are entirely superfluous, oh yes, for this humble lickspittle." "--""Booklist," starred review, on "Dark Lord: The Early Years""" ""Dark Lord: The Early Years "is more aptly described as a cross between Emily the Strange and Vordak. The sarcastic humor will resonate with young teens and remind them of Gru from "Despicable Me."" "--""VOYA" on "Dark Lord: The Early Years""" "It's Lord Sauron, powerless and back in middle school . . . fun in many ways." "--""Kirkus Reviews "on "Dark Lord: The Early Years"

About the Author:

Originally from a world beyond our own, DIRK LLOYD lives in the town of Whiteshields, England, where he spends most of his time trying to get back home to his Iron Tower in the Darklands. Some of his achievements include: building the Iron Tower of Despair, raising vast armies of Orcs and Goblins, and the casting of mighty spells and enchantments, including the spell that forced JAMIE THOMSON to submit to his will and record his life story in its first volume Dark Lord: The Early Years, which receive a starred review and was the winner of the Roald Dahl Funny Prize.
