About the Author:
Amy Kesselman was born in NYC and received her BA in history from the City College of New York. An activist in the early women’s liberation movement, she returned to school to study women’s history at Portland State University, where she received a Master’s Degree in history. After teaching women’s studies in the Portland area for several years, she entered a doctoral program at Cornell University where she received a Ph.D. in history with a minor in women’s studies. She is currently Professor of Women’s Studies at the State University of New York at New Paltz where she has been teaching since 1981. In addition to co-editing Women: Images and Realities, A Multicultural Anthology (McGraw-Hill 2003, Mayfield 1995, 1999), she is the author of Fleeting Opportunities: Women Shipyard Workers in Portland and Vancouver during World War II and Reconversion,(SUNY Press, 1990) and several articles about the history of feminism in the United States. She is currently working on a study of women’s liberation in New Haven, Connecticut.
