This is the first major anthology published which surveys poetry from Britain and Ireland published in the half-century since the Second World War. The poets run from Edwin Muir (b.1887) to Kate Clanchy (b.1965), and include the American-born T.S. Eliot and Sylvia Plath and the Australian-born Peter Porter, but all the poems were written after the War and in the British Isles. There are famous poets, poets with just one book, academically respectable poets and performance poets - all representing the tremendous vitality and diversity of post-War poetry from these islands.

About the Author:
Synopsis:
Simon Armitage was born in 1963 and lives near Huddersfield. His first book of poems ZOOM! was published in 1989. He presents Radio 4's Stanza programme and in 1994 was named the Sunday Times Writer of the Year.
Robert Crawford was born in 1959. Hehas published a number of books of poetry and criticism, and is Professor of Modern Scottish Literature at the University of St Andrews.
