Book Description Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Viking Press, 1982, New York. Hard Cover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. No edition stated, no printing history stated, though it must be an early printing, because the original owner (me) dated it's purchase as "March 1982". 11-1/4" tall, 256 numbered pages includes "Index"; one-piece plain medium blue binding, gilt lettering on spine, front board is plain; plain ivory end pages; fore edge is trimmed. The book is in "New" condition and nearly pristine: the exterior is square, spotlessly clean, corners and edges free of bumps and dings, head and heel of spine have very light wear; hinges are very tight and not damaged in any fashion. Except for an inked name/city/date on the back of the FFEP, the interior is completely free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and page damage of any type. Paper is very lightly toned and is very flexible. No distortion of the book from reading or improper shelving; pages are tight and clean with no marks. Jacket is in "Very Good" condition but not pristine: it is perfectly clean; several tiny edge tears, no folds or fading; no bumps on corners or edges but wear with slight paper and color loss at all four corners and at the heel of the spine; slight color loss along both front and rear folds; jacket is intact and is not corner-clipped. But worse: jacket had masking tape, since removed, along both top and bottom edges, up both folds and covering the entire spine; this tape has not affected the book s binding but has caused some darkening of the jacket, seen on the flaps. Dust jacket is now in protective mylar cover. Condition of book and jacket consistent with being gently read and often viewed. No other discernible or objectionable faults on book or jacket such as marks or writing within, stains, tears, chips, or other damage that would diminish its appearance. No remainder mark, no other previous owner markings or inscriptions, not corner clipped, not a former library book but possibly a book club edition--there is no price on the jacket and no printing history on the copyright page, but there is also no 'slug' on the rear board.
