Noor's story is told simply, not as a piece of literature, but with a distinct purpose: to let the outside world know what District Six was like as a community, why he loved it so, and how the families and individuals were not so very different from those in any other community - but, of course, with some very different hardships. He does not focus on the upheaval. He wants people to remember what it was like before it was all taken away. He was understandably bitter and angry about the loss, but the museum with its outreach to the former community and all those who want to learn about it, has given him hope for the future. I recommend the book to those who visit Cape Town and want to know about its history and people.
