Max Jones collected interviews; the list of more than 60 musicians includes Eubie Blake, Count Basie, Coleman Hawkins, Billie Holiday and Joe Venuti. Many of the interviews are printed in full rather than as they were edited for his pieces in "Melody Maker" and shed much light on the wide-ranging lives and styles of each musician.

About the Author:
Max Jones (1920-1993) wrote and broadcast about jazz from 1942 to his death. In the 1940s he co-founded Jazz Music, and he was the principal jazz contributor to the British magazine Melody Maker for forty years.
