That summer Aunt Tilly had come to stay with her brother the Rector and his four lively daughters in the Sussex village of Ashden. And the onset of the Great War burst open the strait-jacket of rural village life. It brought tragedy, change and love, as private torments and struggles were subjected to the greater need. The challenge proved too much for some and the making of others.

About the Author:
Alice Carr lives with her American husband in a Kentish village by the North Downs. Formerly a director of a London publishing house, she is now a full-time writer in the historical field, both with sagas (written under the name of Harriet Hudson) and with whodunits (written under her real name of Amy Myers).
