Gino Capponi e dagmarco Tabarrini di su i mano scritti dell'autore, diede un testo corretto di compo nimenti tutti sicuramente giustiani; e questa servì poi di fondamento a tutte le edizioni seguenti, da quella curata dal Carducci, pel Barbera, nel 1859, a questa che vede ora la luce. Se non che, già nell'edi zione Le Monnier, ai versi pubblicati dall'autorestesso e da lui riconosciuti, altri se n'erano aggiunti, in parte dati alla luce in gioventù e poi rifiutati, in in parte rimasti inediti; e questo fu il primo esempio di tutte le altre pubblicazioni di versi giustiani, ine diti o rifiutati dall'autore, che furon fatte negli anni seguenti, e per le quali i 59 componimenti seri o scherzosi delle prime edizioni, sono ora divenuti circa tre volte tanti, raggiungendo il numero di ben 170.
