Es war die Lust über diese Gesellschaft gekommen, 'alles was im Leben einigermassen Bedeu tendes vorging, zu Alles Urteil, billigend oder missbilligend, sollte sich vor den Augen des Be schauers in lebendigen Formen bewegen.' Hans Sachs und Aristophanes standen Pathen. Diese auch heute noch ergötzlichen Erzeugnisse glücklicher Laune kenn zeichnen der Form wie dem Inhalt nach die Zeit ihrer Entstehung. 'raschen, derben Ausdruck' suchten die Dichter für ihre Ueberzeugung; vor Einseitigkeit und Ungerechtigkeit schreckten sie nicht zurück; 'sowol der Neigung als Abneigung kannten sie keine Grenzen'. So wurde Shakespeare auf den Thron erhoben, so Voltaire in den Pfuhl gestürzt.
