The Compiler of, AN easy assumes or geography, for the use (f schools, upon Goldsmith's much waved plan, has been induced by the very flattering reception of that work; to undertake the cornpilation of an Arithmetic, which he has completed, and now offers to the same-public who have already so liberally rewarded his humble' efforts to serve them. So many difi'erent Arithmetics have been published, that the sulfiect was, by many: supposed to be exhausted. The compiler of the following work, however, has for some time entertained the Opinion that there was still room for im provement. He 'accordingly undertook this work, not so much however, with the view of acquiring credit as an ori ginal writer, as with the h0pe of being able to make a useful book. He has accordingly made free use of Diltyorth, and most other authors, in whose works.he found any thing that; met his approbation. Y.
