Une fois, elle fit une galanterie à M. De Lizieux à laquelle il ne s'attendait pas. Il l'alla voir à Rambouillet. Il y a au pied du château une fort grande prairie, au milieu de laquelle, par une bizarrerie de la nature, se trouve comme un cercle de grosses roches entre lesquelles s'élèvent de grands arbres qui font un ombrage très agréable. C'est le lieu où Rabelais se divertissoit, à ce qu'on dit dans le pays car le cardinal du Bellay, à qui il étoit, et Messieurs de Rambouillet, comme proches parents, alloient fort souvent passer le temps à cette maison et encore aujourd'hui on appelle une certaine roche creuse la Marmite de Rabelais. La marquise proposa donc à M. De Lizieux d'aller se promener dans la prairie. Quand il fut assez près de ces roches pour entrevoir à travers les feuilles des arbres, il aperçut en divers endroits je ne sais quoi de brillant. Etant plus proche, il lui sembla qu'il discernait des femmes, et qu'elles étaient vêtues en aym phes. La marquise, au commencement, ne faisoit pas semblant de rien voir de ce qu'il voyoit. Enfin, étant parvenus jusqu'aux roches, ils trouvèrent mademoiselle de Rambouillet et toutes les demoiselles de la maison, vêtues effectivement en nymphes, qui, assises sur ces roches, faisoient le spectacle le plus agréable du monde. Le bon homme en fut si charmé, que depuis il ne voyoit jamais la marquise sans lui parler des roches de Rambouillet (i).
