About the Author:

ANNE OAKLEY is Professor of Sociology and Social Policy and Director of the Social Science Research Unit at the University of London Institute of Education.
JULIET MITCHELL is a psychoanalyst and currently A. D. White Professor-at-large at CornellUniversity, a university lecturer in Gender and Society at Cambridge University and a Fellow of Jesus College.
