About the Author:
Evelyn Waugh was born in 1903 and read Modern History at Oxford. He worked as a schoolmaster and in 1939 was commissioned by the Royal Marines and later transferred to the Royal Horse Guards. He won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1952 for The Sword of Honour trilogy consisting of Men at Arms, Officers and Gentlemen and Unconditional Surrender. He died in 1966.
