From the Publisher:
A wonderful novel, and a totally absorbing read
Alexandra's second novel (her first, THE OFFICE PARTY, was published in 1998) is that rare thing - an utterly gripping story which holds you from the first line, but which also tackles important issues and makes you think. If you're a working woman, or a married woman, or a mother, or a sister, or an ex-girlfriend - ie most of us - you'll recognise the situations here. If you're not, you'll still be captivated by this rich, funny, yet moving story. Alexandra is a wonderful writer and Penguin is very proud to be publishing her.
From the Author:
When you get married, it's the beginning, not the end
I wanted to write a book that reflects that life's no longer as simple as meeting Mr Right and living happily ever after. My heroine, Leonie, has to juggle work and her relationship with Will, she has to fight both her husband's past - the enigmatic, irritating ex-girlfriend ,Saffron - and for her own future, which is to have a baby. She's sandwiched between two sisters, the superwoman, Lindsay, and earth mother, Laura, each determined that their way is the best. But Leonie realises she's got to find her own way, and, like most women today, she knows that something has got to go. The trouble is what - is it the job, her relationship with Will or the baby? And unless she can deal with the past and Saffron, she may lose it all, rather than have it all. I hope that other women will recognise the dilemmas we all face today.
