This text is available in tow versions, one with, and the other without coverage of the criminal justice system. For schools that retain the traditional criminology course, which includes criminological coverage of Criminal Justice, Criminology, 3/e, is the ideal text. For schools that have expanded their offerings by adding an introductory course in criminal justice, Criminology: The Shorter Version, 3/e, is probably more appropriate. The Shorter Version omits Part IV: A Criminological Approach to the Criminal Justice System.

From the Publisher:
Reorganization of individual chapters brings the text sequence of material more in synch with the way most instructors actually teach the course (for example, Ch. 8, 'Targets and Victims of Crime' and Ch. 9, 'Alternative Explanations of Crime' have been reversed).
Expanded coverage of political criminology (terrorism, etc.) in Chapter 11, "Violent Crime" insures adequate treatment of this hot topic within criminology.
Extensive updating of research; plentiful 1999 references make this the most current book available.
"Crime Surfing" exercises integrated into each chapter enable students to explore the web in a directed, focused fashion.
"Did You Know?" inserts in every chapter engage student's natural curiosity about intriguing criminological issues.
"Where Do We Go From Here?" and "Of Immediate Concern" boxed features highlight current issues and dilemmas in criminology.
All-new design and significantly enhanced photo program make the book much more visually appealing and inviting for today's student.
This edition continues to offer the excellent coverage of international and comparative crime and criminology for which it is so well known.
An acclaimed thematic box, 'Window to the World,' highlights the international dimensions of crime and criminology study in every chapter.
'Theory Informs Policy' sections demonstrate the interrelatedness of theory, policy, and practice in order to highlight the practical aspect of the work of criminologists.
Careful attention to pedagogy guides students through the text highlighting and amplifying the text material through such features as: chapter outlines, list of key terms, chapter review sections, Internet exercises, and a glossary, as well as illustrations, charts and tables.
Interactive student CD-ROM, "Making the Grade," features chapter-by-chapter quizzes (with feedback), a study skills primer, and Internet guide, and much more.
In-depth treatment of high-tech crimes such as pornography on the Internet and cyber vandalism in Chapter 12, "Crimes Against Property," thrusts the book firmly into the 21st century.
