About this Item
16.25 x 14.25 inches. Original oil on masonite painting by Todros Geller. A Sabbath scene painted in blue and brown, which depicts a man seated at a table set with Sabbath candles, challah, a wine glass and decanter. Hovering over this scene is a crowned Shekina floating above the rooftops of Safed, observed by a figure in shadow. Vignettes of a hand supporting a Kiddish cup, a clock, and text in Hebrew (L'chad Dodi, likrat kallah) round out the scene. Small chips at edges and corners. Very good condition. An award-winning artist, often know for woodcuts, Geller's works are in the collections of the Library of Congress, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago. Born in the Ukraine, Geller worked and taught primarily in Chicago. Seller Inventory # 23495
