Both Volumes bound together, with second Volume before first. CONDITION: Recased in brown cloth hardcover, lettered in gilt; Fine condition, bright, clean. OTHER : Referenced in Hjartar, page 9. Part of a 3-volume series; the first two volumes were published in Winnipeg, the third in published in Reykjavík in 1935. Gegnir (database of Icelandic National Library) indicates this thus: "1. og 2. bindi eru gefin út í Winnipeg, 3. bindi í Reykjavík". SUBJECTS: Includes his correspondence with leading Icelandic-Canadian poet, Stephan G. Stephansson that took place over a 20-year period. Includes short stories/Smásögur; prose; letters. AUTHOR BIO: The author was born at Bessahlaðir in Öxnadalur in Northern Iceland in 1878, son of Kristján Jónasson and Guðbjörg Thorsteinsdóttir, emigrated to Canada in 1901, followed by widowed mother and siblings in 1906, took a homestead at Mozart, Sask. in 1906, but returned to Winnipeg and became a very successful building contractor in partnership with his brother Friðrik, suffered ill health in latter years and died in Hollywood, bequeathed a very large estate (totaling about $108,000.00) mostly to Iceland to establish a chair in Science and Chemistry at the University of Iceland and a home for disadvantaged children in Eyjafjörður, also for reforestation in Iceland, but also $20,000.00 to the U of Manitoba), wrote several books in both Icelandic and English.
