Includes Vincent's bookplate. William D. Vincent (1866-1935) was a collector of books and bookplates, an amateur historian, with focus on the Pacific NW. From Spokane, Washington, he was President of the Old National Bank of Spokane 1920-1933. INCLUDES TWO LETTERS FROM THE AUTHOR TO VINCENT, in their original stamped envelopes [tipped-in]. Letter One: is written on "Carlton Club" letterhead, dated "London April 15, 1925", is handwritten, and is responding to Vincent's request to have the book signed. "I have only just returned from Constantinople, when I found your letter of March 18 awaiting me.". Letter Two: "London May 22, 1925" is also handwritten "I have today dispatched your book on it's long journey westward to the Pacific."I was at Oxford yesterday - No words can describe the enchanting beauty of that old dream-city in this glorious May weather.". The book is a record of the Author's years spent behind the scenes of diplomatic life in many parts of the world. He candidly writes about his days in Berlin, Russia, Lisbon, Buenos Ayres and more.
