About this Item
One of the great de luxe books from the golden age of book illustration. Signed by Edmund Dulac to the limitation page, being number 17 of 1,000. Original morocco binding with fantastic ornate gilt decoration: front and back boards have the same design of four cherubs to the corners and within a floral pattern. Each cherub sits on a different image, reflecting different stories: a shoe; a rose; a dagger (?); a thorny branch. These cherub designs are then repeated on the spine. Boards generally bright with a little wear to edges and corners a little worn. Spine rubbed and a little faded. Head and tail of spine scuffed and worn with a small degree of loss. Gilt to upper face of page block, with other faces rough cut and toned to edges. Ornate bookplate of George Kitchin to front pastedown, designed by F.C. Tilney. Contents exceptionally clean and bright with only the odd tiny spot and one faint patch of foxing. All thirty plates present and correct, with tissues guards and with colours lovely and bright. Quarto in size. Four stories, told by Quiller-Couch: Sleeping Beauty, Bluebeard, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast. A lovely copy, rare in its full original binding. More details available on request. Extra postal costs may be required for delivery outside the U.K. depending on destination. Please email for details. Seller Inventory # 001174
