ORIGINAL LOUIS WAIN AUTOGRAPHED POSTCARD - An original 3-1/4 inch high by 5-3/8 inch wide pictorial postcard illustrated with an image of a dozen scraggly cats sleeping and reclining against a wall of a "Cats Home Casuals" as a black kitten looks on. Titled in print at bottom center: "The Seven Ages VII" with a quote from Shakespeare's "As You Like It": "Last scene of all, that ends this strange eventful history. In second childishness, and mere oblivion: Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything". Inscribed & signed in ink "Yours Sincerely / Louis Wain" vertically in the blank border at right. The card is addressed in ink on the verso with a British postage stamp postmarked from Westgate-on-Sea. The postcard is slightly soiled and its corners lightly bumped. Very good. The image first appeared in 1900 in a supplement to the Illustrated London News. It was later reprinted as a postcard titled "The Unemployed".This postcard is inscribed and signed in ink by Louis Wain in a blank box on the front. Published by J. Beagles & Co., the card is postmarked and mailed from Wain's home village Westgate-On-Sea, in 1903. It is addressed to a known collector of signed postcards, "Master M. Anderson - c/o Madame Krieg-Pascal - Rue Valentin 14 - Lausanne - Switzerland". Postcards from Anderson's collection that have appeared on the market include those signed by Edvard Grieg and Ignace Jan Paderewski. Seller Inventory # 98839
