About this Item
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: Octavo, 8 volumes. The first collected edition of Barrie's works, and issued before the existence of the character of Peter Pan. Cutler's bibliography calls this the "Thistle Edition," though that moniker is nowhere to be found in these books. He also gives publication dates of 1896-1911; our set of eight volumes is all dated 1896, the final four volumes were necessarily issued later, after the publication of the Peter Pan novelsin the first decade of the 20th century. Auction records exist for eight-volume sets, and none of these are ever described as incomplete, so we would describe this set as "complete as initially issued." Bound in the publisher's plain boards with vellum spines and corner tips. Scarce signed issue of the "Author's Edition," which was limited to 150 examples, all printed entirely on Japan vellum and SIGNED by Barrie in volume I. Each volume is hand-numbered 107. In good condition at best, with the spines dust-soiled, and some mold/soiling to many of the endpapers and some of the boards; a budget-friendly or place-holder set, worthy of conservation and preservation. Cutler, p. 193. Seller Inventory # 11439
